The Doctors Eyecare “Giving Circle” is a process for coordinating charitable donations.
Through the Doctors Eyecare Giving Circle, Doctors and practices in Doctors Eyecare Network are encouraged to contribute to designated vision charities. The Doctors and practices make their donations individually, to the designated charity of their choice, noting that their contribution is being made as part of the Doctors Eyecare Giving Circle.
The receiving charity issues receipts directly to the donors. At the same time, it totals up the sum of all donations under the Doctors Eyecare Giving Circle name and recognizes the Giving Circle for that donation.
This gives the total donations of all Doctors Eyecare members greater visibility. At the same time, Members receive charitable donation receipts directly from the receiving charity.
In some cases, the DEN Giving Circle will set a target or goal for a total donation amount. For larger projects, depending on Member interest, DEN may assign a group of Members or Executive who would take ownership of the project to ensure the success of the fundraising campaign.
If combined DEN gifts hit target thresholds with the charity, it is expected that DEN as a group would receive naming rights or equivalent recognition.
For 2008, Doctors Eyecare Giving Circle is supporting vision charities across Canada and internationally:
- The University of Waterloo School of Optometry
- Canadian Vision Care
- Third World Eye Care
- Optometry Giving Sight
Charities are selected on an annual basis and the success of a previous year’s campaign will be a key factor in determining future opportunities for collaboration.
What do you need to do as a donor?
select your charity(ies) of choice and decide on an amount to give
submit your donation directly to the charity, with a note “Doctors Eyecare Giving Circle” on the cheque or clearly noted in your communication to the charity
let the DEN office know that you have made a donation (date and charity name only required – not the amount of the donation)
